Aquarium de Canet-en-Roussillon
In Canet-en-Roussillon, the old port aquarium, opened in 1983, has given way to Oniria, a new venue that now houses its collection. On the Boulevard de la Jetée, it covers about 3,500 m² and offers a route based on the water cycle.
Visitors pass through about ten habitats, from the slopes of the Canigou massif to coral reefs, by way of the beach, the world of sharks and the ocean depths. A large shark tank and a section devoted to prehistory complete the whole, which presents more than 650 animal species according to the venue.
It suits families, nature lovers and school groups, who discover freshwater life as well as that of the Mediterranean and tropical seas. Close to the beach and the port, it fits easily into a stay on the Catalan coast, in the Pyrénées-Orientales.
