Apremont-sur-Allier

Cher, Centre-Val de Loire

The little village of Apremont lies on the banks of the Allier, on the border of Burgundy and Berry: it is overlooked by a very fine castle. Of the medieval fortress, only five crenellated towers remain today, the castle having been partly rebuilt in the fifteenth century, then embellished in the seventeenth. It has belonged to the same family since 1722. The village, with its golden sandstone houses, all flowered, stretches at the foot of the castle. The dwellings were restored or rebuilt in medieval style by the industrialist Eugène Schneider in the thirties. The whole is quite peaceful and harmonious. You should visit the castle, the Carriage museum (in the stables), and the magnificent flower park that borders the village.
