Oisellerie du Château Médiéval (ex-Aigles de Château-Thierry)

Aisne, Hauts-de-France

The Aigles de Château-Thierry, now presented as the Oisellerie du Château Médiéval, are a bird of prey attraction in the medieval castle of Château-Thierry, in the Aisne. The castle team gives educational displays introducing birds of prey and their place in the history of falconry.

The birds shown include the bald eagle, the golden eagle, the barn owl, the spectacled owl and the white stork, as well as other day and night raptors. The demonstrations explain these animals' behaviour, how they hunt and the care they need.

To go further, the 'Falconer for a day' activity lets small groups follow the team for a morning and discover the behind-the-scenes side of the job.

The aviary is part of a wider site that also includes the casteloscope, the royal kitchens and the Riomet garden, so the birds can be combined with a visit to the castle. The site opens seasonally, from spring to autumn; it is best to check the programme before going.
