Château de Condé

Aisne, Hauts-de-France

On the Champagne route, about a hundred kilometres from Paris, the Château de Condé at Condé-en-Brie, in the Aisne, is a private estate, listed and lived in all year round, surrounded by a park with three-hundred-year-old trees.

Its 17th- and 18th-century décor was created by major artists (Watteau, Boucher, Oudry…) for the Bourbons, the Princes of Savoy and then the Marquis de la Faye. The château brings part of French history to life through figures such as the Condés, the Savoys, La Fontaine and Richelieu, not forgetting Olympe and her mysterious 'powders'.

The tour includes the Watteau wing and its recently discovered frescoes, Richelieu's bedroom, the private apartments and the salon decorated by Oudry. For children there are tin soldiers, an educational game and a treasure hunt in the park.
