Tarbes

Hautes-Pyrénées, Occitanie

Tarbes, in the Hautes-Pyrénées, grew up at the crossroads of the routes linking the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, at the foot of the Pyrenees, which can be seen clearly from its squares on fine days. The birthplace of Marshal Foch, it has a rich military and equestrian heritage.

The Haras National de Tarbes, founded under Napoleon I, is one of the cradles of the Anglo-Arab horse. The Jardin Massey, an English-style park laid out in the 19th century around a Gothic cloister rebuilt stone by stone, also houses the International Hussar Museum, offering a green break in the heart of the town.
