Roches de Ham

Manche, Normandie

The Roches de Ham form a schist spur that overlooks a meander of the Vire, in the communes of Condé-sur-Vire and Torigny-les-Villes (Brectouville), in the Manche département. The site has been classified since 1930, making it the oldest classified site in the département, and is now managed as a sensitive natural area.

Heaths, dry grasslands, wooded slopes, fissures, small caves and wet meadows follow one another and shelter varied flora and fauna, including autumn squill, a small late-flowering lily. From the belvedere, the view opens over the Vire valley and the surrounding bocage.

The Département has laid out discovery loops with an interpretive trail and secured the cliff edges. Several hiking routes serve the site, notably from Brectouville. The cliff is also used by climbers; caution is needed near the drop.
