Rambouillet

Yvelines, Île-de-France

A sub-prefecture in the south of the Yvelines, Rambouillet grew up around its château, a summer residence of the Presidents of the Republic, but the town itself has a pleasant historic centre organised around its eighteenth-century town hall, with a classical façade in stone and brick. Surrounded by the immense forest of Rambouillet, one of the largest woodlands in the Paris region, the town long lived from hunting and forestry, activities still visible in its airy layout and broad tree-lined avenues. The Saturday market still enlivens the town hall square, and residents enjoy a setting that combines architectural heritage with wide access to nature, between ponds, woods and clearings.
