Praz de Lys Sommand
Praz de Lys-Sommand, in Haute-Savoie, lies in the Giffre valley, on the Route des Grandes Alpes, at 1,500 metres and about forty minutes from Geneva. The area faces the Mont Blanc, Aravis, Chablais and Jura massifs.
It offers about 60 km of downhill runs and as many cross-country trails, groomed for skating and classic styles; it is one of the leading Nordic ski areas in Haute-Savoie. The two villages, made up of chalets and former mountain farms scattered in hamlets, almost all allow you to ski from the door.
The resort is also worth discovering in summer: the first paragliding flights took place from Sommand in July 1978. The surrounding summits are ideal for hiking, and the Chartreuse de Mélan, chapels and the Hauts Fleury cheese dairy complete the visit.
