MAC/VAL Musée d'art contemporain

Val-de-Marne, Île-de-France

The MAC VAL, the Val-de-Marne museum of contemporary art, is on the Place de la Libération in Vitry-sur-Seine. Opened in November 2005, it was the first contemporary art museum in the Paris suburbs. It holds the 'Musée de France' label and belongs to the Tram network.

It is devoted to the French art scene since the 1950s, with a collection from the departmental contemporary art fund created in 1982. The building covers 13,000 m², including 2,600 m² for the permanent collection and 1,350 m² for temporary exhibitions, and the garden displays sculptures.

In 2026 the museum presents 'Ici grand ouvert', an immersive exhibition by the artist SMITH, from 23 May 2026 to 31 January 2027, exploring the links between the body, the environment and invisible forms of life. During the Centre Pompidou's closure, it also hosts exhibitions designed with the Pompidou under the Constellation programme. It welcomes contemporary art lovers and families, with workshops, tours and events including the Heritage Days.
