Lac de Montriond
Formed in a hollow of the French Chablais, in the Haute-Savoie, the Lac de Montriond is the largest lake in this pre-Alpine massif and the third largest in the Haute-Savoie. Its intense blue-green water, fed by meltwater from the neighbouring peaks, contrasts with the rock walls around it.
Recognised as a geosite of the Chablais Geopark, it reflects the glacial and karst history of the area. At the end of the lake, the Ardent waterfall plunges down a steep wall, a spectacular counterpoint to the calm of the lake.
A walking path suitable for the whole family goes around it in under an hour, with several swimming spots in summer. The site is just a few kilometres from Morzine-Avoriaz, so it combines easily with a stay in the Chablais.
