Grotte de la Madeleine
The Madeleine cave is at Saint-Remèze, in the nature reserve of the Ardèche gorges. It is rated three stars in the Michelin guide. It was shaped by underground water, which moulded large volumes and varied concretions in very different tints.
The visit goes down and then back up about 250 steps. A sound and light show enlivens the route and highlights the shapes of the rock. The site is also known for its viewpoint over the Cathedral rock, one of the most photographed landscapes of the plateau. On the surface, the estate offers other ways to discover it: guided visits, family trails, hikes combined with a visit to the cave, introduction to caving and also wine-related visits. The natural setting, at the edge of the gorges, completes the underground visit and suits a family outing well.
