Aven Grotte de la Forestière
The Aven-Grotte de la Forestière is in Orgnac-l'Aven, in the Ardèche, and is part of the vast Orgnac network of cavities. It is a cavity carved by water, reached by a staircase of about sixty steps, which makes it accessible to most visitors.
The route, of about 500 metres, is a self-guided visit, with a headlamp provided and information panels along the way. You can see coral-shaped stalagmites, pools filled with water and a major deposit of bones dating from the Upper Palaeolithic. In the cave, a cave zoo presents in aquariums and vivariums animals that usually live in the darkness of cavities. The intimate atmosphere of this small cavity, with its highly varied concretions, contrasts with the large halls of the neighbouring sites. Outside, the site also offers play areas, a fossil workshop and a picnic area.
