Château de Meux

Charente-Maritime, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Rebuilt at the end of the Hundred Years' War on the ruins of a fortress, this manor at Meux, in the Charente-Maritime, birthplace of Judith, wife of Pierre Dugua, has fine Renaissance architecture: a stair tower decorated with the Saintonge 'cagouille' (snail), large carved stone fireplaces and simply decorated mullioned windows.

Roses are everywhere, on the outbuildings around the courtyard, in the French formal flower beds and in the park, mixed with other flowers and trees.
