Château de Duisans

Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France

Built in 1752 by André Merville, a master mason who also designed the abbey of Mont-Saint-Éloi, the Château de Duisans, in the Pas-de-Calais, has much history to tell. A perfect example of the architectural classicism that spread through the northern provinces in the 18th century, it also shows features typical of Artois craftsmanship, combining a real science of proportion with perfect symmetry.

Its history was shaped by two families, the Dubois de Hoves and the Laroches, who lived here from the late 18th century to 1920. It was then let to individuals or companies and bought in 1957 by the Arras clergy, who set up a holiday centre; since 1962 it has housed the Collège Clairefontaine.
