Cathédrale Saint-Étienne de Metz

Moselle, Grand Est

Saint-Étienne cathedral, nicknamed the 'Good Lord's Lantern', is one of the most beautiful monuments in Europe.

It intrigues with its immense glazed surface and astonishes with its height. Renovated at the beginning of the 20th century by Tornow, who restored its Gothic soul by replacing the neoclassical elements, and cleaned in 1995 and 2012, Saint-Étienne cathedral is a jewel of Gothic art.

With a vault height of 42 metres, the nave of Saint-Étienne cathedral in Metz is one of the tallest in France.

Its very distinctive silhouette results from the joining of two perpendicular buildings: Saint-Étienne and the collegiate church of Notre-Dame.
