Cathédrale Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais de Soissons
Soissons cathedral, built from the 12th to the 14th century, is the only building of its rank in the Aisne to have come through the centuries without major ruin, unlike the nearby abbey of Saint-Jean-des-Vignes. In classic Gothic style, it has a rounded south transept, a rare feature in France.
Raised to the rank of minor basilica in 1857, it remains the spiritual heart of a town that in the 5th century was the capital of Clovis's Merovingian kingdom. Inside is a painting by Rubens of the Adoration of the Shepherds.
