Musée de la Romanité de Nîmes

Gard, Occitanie

The Musée de la Romanité in Nîmes faces the Roman amphitheatre, in the Gard, in Occitanie. Designed by the French-Brazilian architect Elizabeth de Portzamparc, winner of the international competition launched in 2011, the 9,100 m² building has an undulating glass façade evoking the folds of a Roman toga, in dialogue with the monumental ancient amphitheatre close by. It displays around 5,000 archaeological objects out of the 25,000 in its collection, arranged according to three major chronological periods.
