Gorges de Saint-Pierre

Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

The Gorges de Saint-Pierre are a natural site in the upper Verdon, in the commune of Beauvezer, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. The village lies at 1,175 metres; the narrow, rocky gorge is graced with springs, waterfalls and trees. A path cut into the rock, known as the aerial path, runs along the cliff face, with fine viewpoints.

The Saint-Pierre chapel, beside the torrent, adds a picturesque touch. The walk is done on foot, with family, from the entrance hamlet, and combines well with Colmars, Beauvezer, the Col d'Allos and the upper Verdon. After heavy rain or during the snowmelt, it is best to check the state of the path before setting off.
